In my previous post, I talked about the inner feminine energy, and how it manifests in the body, and in our everyday lives. So today, let's talk about the opposite polarity, the masculine.
Just to recap: according to the Universal law of Gender, everything in creation contains both feminine and masculine energy, and naturally, humans are no exception. Humans are electromagnetic beings, and gender aside, we all have both feminine and masculine energy flowing through our bodies at every second. Like magnets have two polarities, we also have positive – outward flowing current, and negative – inward flowing energy. The positive being the masculine, more active, manifesting energy, and the negative being the feminine, more passive, receptive, creative energy. And today I'm going to talk about the masculine energy, how it shows up and how to heal and cherish this divine energy. Because that is the ultimate goal in life, the Great Work, or the „Magnum Opus”: to balance out the inner Yin (feminine) and Yang (masculine) energies, while integrating our conscious with the subconscious. That is the process of individuation, the awakening of the self.
So let's talk about our inner masculine.
The left side of the brain is traditionally associated with being in charge of the right side of the body. That means that the left side of our minds – the logical, observant, action-oriented side, what we attribute as masculine traits – manifests on the right side of the body. So the Yang energy is the positive polarity, meaning the energy circulates and flows outward, that's why we say it's the manifester, the action-taking side of you. The masculine energy inside your body is the one that pushes you forwards to take calculated action on what you desire, to support and provide for yourself, it's the one that initiates and leads you towards your goals.
So the masculine energy is what we associate with our consciousness and materialisation: it is the logical side of us, the assertive, the observant one, the one that sits in our crown chakra and just observes and lets the world happen around it. If the feminine energy is the lifeforce, the emotion, the creation, then the masculine is the safe space that lets that creation happen. It is that energy where the feminine can bloom and manifest into something real.
When your creative ideas are flowing (your feminine), the masculine energy is the one that ends up taking the pen and scribbling those ideas onto paper; because ideas and emotions are one thing, but materialising and making those ideas into something tangible is action that needs to be taken. That is the masculine energy. It's the energy in you that helps you build habits, structures in your life that protect you, that support you in the long run. The confidence, independence, and the success that you desire. The side of you that is outward-focused, on your environment, the people around you, your place in the world and your success in it.
But it also provides safety – to you and your emotions – and helps you to deal with those sometimes difficult emotions too.
So let's talk about why providing emotional safety for yourself is so important.
Because if your inner masculine is wounded, and you don't feel safe within your body, you will go and look for that safety somewhere else. If your masculine is out of balance, then you won't be able to focus on your life completely, you will take the wrong actions, make wrong decisions, let the wrong crowd affect you and your choices, and just overall, end up going in the wrong direction. And it's most observable in our relationships. If we are not in tune with our inner masculine, or if it is heavily wounded, we look for a partner that we think will provide the direction and safety we crave. But most often, that other person cannot provide the safety that you desire, never fully at least. That's why most often, people think the idea of a romantic relationship is the answer to all their problems, thinking that other person will be the end goal and the main focus and direction in their lives, but most often, that's not the answer, and they end up living a life that is not fully theirs. That is not soul-driven, but desire- and ego-driven.
So let's talk about how a wounded masculine energy shows up within us.
An out-of-balance inner masculine energy will make you:
- Controlling and dominating: calculating, and managing people and situations to a high extent, can be exploitative
- Over-achieving and overproductive: never learned to rest (feminine), never satisfied, overly goal-oriented, want to achieve something „at any cost”
- Aggressive and violent: just like the feminine can be, but masculine energy is action-oriented so it's more likely to manifest as active aggression
- Overly materialistic: ego-driven and selfish to the extent of not caring about anything else but success and money, and protecting assets
- Defensive and easily offended: if they are not emotionally mature, they won't understand emotions and intentions, and always find things triggering and offensive
- Emotionally avoidant: emotionally disconnected and suppressed, avoiding their own and others' emotions as well
- Fearful of vulnerability: toxic mindset that emotions are „not masculine” traits
An underdeveloped masculine energy can also show up as:
- Having a hard time taking initiative, building habits, building structures in life
- Lack of purpose and direction in life
- Being indecisive, and then having a hard time following through as well
- Being passive, waiting for someone else to give directions, being overly reliant on others
- Avoiding needs, boundaries, and emotions – overgiving or undergiving in relationships
And then, how does a healed masculine energy show up?
- Disciplined and focused on doing: knows their purpose and direction
- Emotionally aware and protective: is not scared of their emotions or of showing them openly
- Firm but nurturing and giving: sets boundaries, with themselves and with others, and is not afraid to give or receive
- Proactive and responsible: for themselves, others, for their goals
- Logical and reasoning: but also emotionally intelligent
Like everything else in life, it's a scale and it can tip from one end to the other easily. But that is the purpose we come here for: to learn balance, in our inner world first and foremost, and once we do that, that balance will show up in our outer world. All these energies, feminine and masculine, show up in our everyday worlds, all we have to do is take a look around. We can all see that the world is heavily imbalanced, but all we can do, on a personal level, is to start with something simple: take a look at ourselves, and see what we can improve. Small changes always add up, even if it doesn't always seem that way.
